Donner Lake Triathlon

July 17, 2011

Chris stepped outside of the Rocky Mountain region and raced the Donner Lake Triathlon Olympic distance in Truckee, CA on July 17, 2011. Here is what he had to say about the event:

The swim was a one lap triangle shaped course, making the long side about 800 yards long. The first buoy was right in front of the rising sun, making sighting very difficult. I was third out of the water with a time of 26:11. The bike course was also pretty difficult with the first 4 miles a 900 ft climb to Donner Summit. Some rollers and a nice downhill to the turnaround after that. I had the fastest bike split with a time of 1:21:02. Not too bad considering I missed the turnaround and kept going for about a half mile until a volunteer chased us down in his truck. There wasn’t a sign for the turnaround and the volunteers didn’t say anything, so we thought it was just a bottle feed. That’s just the way racing goes sometimes, ha ha.

On the run, the hills come in the last two miles, giving me a challenge. Still was able to finish third in the run with a time of 46:01. Overall time of 2:35:54 for a 2nd place finish.

It was a great race and a challenging race!
